The Village on Hills
Established in 1993, our Asiakwa Village is located in the Eastern Region of Ghana and is approximately 100km northeast of the capital city, Accra.
The village opened its doors after a commissioning by the then President of Ghana, His Execcellency Jerry John Rawlings and the former Secretary General of the SOS Children’s Villages Internatonal, Mr. Wendl Handl.
The beautiful village is located at the top of the hill in a very beautiful countryside. It is featured with 12 family houses, a Village Director’s house, the Hermann Gmeiner School, a community hall, administrative block, sports facility, a medical centre and a playground for all children. We are glad to say that the SOS Medical Centre has been very helful to people in neigbouring communities as the rural area has limited access to medical services. About 1,800 patients receive medical care at the SOS Medical Centre every year. The centre boasts of a consultation room, a department for infectious vulnerable families with social and material support.
