The SOS Children’s Village Tamale under its Family Strengthening Programme (FSP) has supported over 260 children within its operational area with educational materials worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
The educational materials included school uniforms, textbooks, pens and pencils among others to support the education of children within five (5) of their FSP locations.
The beneficiary children were selected from Zuozugu, Dungu, Datoyili, Gunayili and Kambonayili which are communities where FSP Tamale Office operate. According to Mr. Joseph Agoona, FSP Coordinator for SOS CV Tamale, the donation of the educational materials to the selected communities and children is primarily to ensure that more children enroll, stay in school and acquire basic education.
He indicated that this is however not the first time SOS CV Tamale under the FSP is embarking on such an exercise. It has become an annual thing, he stated. He added that their resolve is to ensure that no child stays out of school because of lack of educational materials.
Present at the official donation ceremony included the FSP delegation, teachers and some parents of the beneficiary children who were commended SOS CV Tamale for the consistent support given them and their children.
Visibly excited by the consistent generous support of SOS CV Tamale the children expressed their gratitude to SOS and promised to study harder.“We are happy and excited by the support. It is very difficult for our parents to buy us books and school uniforms and I was very happy when we were given the educational materials” said Sanatu a beneficiary of the donated items.
As a social development organisation, SOS CV Ghana has consistently supported the education and welfare of underprivileged children. This particular support by the FSP seeks to reach out to children who are at risk of losing parental care in the selected communities.
