The SOS Children’s Village Tamale has organized an educational tour for school children at Sagnarigu district in Northern Region.
The educational tour was organized as part of activities marking the End Child Marriage Project for members of the Child Rights Clubs in schools located in the district.
The tour was organized to three departments in the Tamale Technical University to get first hand information and acquaint themselves with the programmes run by the Technical University and the opportunities available for them when they complete Junior High school.
A total of 400 students from 20 Junior High schools within the Sagnarigu district participated in the tour.
The students who were eagerly excited visited three departments, namely the Agriculture Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management Departments (HC&IM) in the University.
A student shared his experience after the tour saying ‘I am very happy to be part of the educational tour. It has exposed me to a lot of things I didn’t know about technical education. I am particularly excited about the tools and agricultural machinery available at the University for learning. At the agriculture department for instance we were shown the planting machine used for planting crops in rows; we are also shown the other farm implements such as tractor and its accessories”.
The Project Officer for the End Child Marriage Project, Nadiatu Ali, was full of praise for the teachers and students for the enthusiasm with which they participated in the educational tour and encouraged the students to be focused in their education and work hard to enable them qualify to pursue higher education in the University.
